Facebook changed their name to Meta last week and the internet lost its mind. Granted, most of it was meme-based, but it is still trending on Twitter and Linkedin.
So what can we learn from Facebook's rebrand to META:
✔SCARCITY - Facebook has been around for nearly two decades and this is its first major rebrand. Rebranding regularly is definitely not a good idea as it dilutes brand recognition. If you want the hype level Meta achieved, you have got to keep rebrands extremely scarce.
✔RELEVANCE - The Meta rebrand has not been on a whim. It is relevant to a change in direction for the tech giant. This leads us to...
✔PURPOSE - There is a strong reason for this rebrand. It has a purpose. Facebook wanted to align itself with the supposed second-coming of the internet - the so-called Metaverse.
By renaming themselves Meta has positioned Facebook as gatekeepers to this new technology and will help keep them relevant into the future. What do you think about Facebook's rebrand to Meta? Give me a 😍in the comments if you love it or a🤔 if you think it's lame!
