the intersection of motherhood and entrepreneurship: redefining success and balance

Fellow multitasking mommas! Buckle up for a chat about the ultimate juggle—being a mom and an entrepreneur. Balancing client meetings and bedtime stories? Yup, that's our daily grind. So, grab a cozy spot, and let's dive into this rollercoaster ride together!

Success used to be a fancy title or a hefty paycheck. But for us, it's evolved into a mix of personal fulfillment, family time, and pursuing our passions while running a business. Success is not a one-size-fits-all; it's what we define it to be.

Ever felt torn between sending that client email and playing tea party? Been there, done that. Prioritizing tasks, setting realistic goals, and—here's the secret sauce—being okay with saying 'no' sometimes have been game-changers. When you set clear boundaries it becomes very clear where your focus needs to go. When it is family time you need to 100% be present and embrace these moments that matter the most. When you have set time apart to dive deep into your business then that's where you need to place your focus. It is the only way to navigate through the feeling of being overwhelmed and never feeling like you are enough for anyone.

Learning to navigate the guilt trips, whether it's feeling like you're neglecting your business or your family, takes practice. But finding that sweet spot where both thrive? Priceless. I have found that when I plan out my weeks using an old-school paper planner helps. Getting everything out of my mind and phone and I can see where my time needs to be spent has given me the ability to move things around when life happens. This past week my daughter got sick... this is nothing I could have planned for, but ultimately she needed more attention from me than she normally does and she didn't go to school. So I lost the focused time that I would have been able to work if she was in school. But, because I keep a planner I saw what I was able to do now vs later to be able to maximize the time I did have. By the end of the week, nothing was left undone; it was just done on a different timetable than originally planned. When you plan out your home life including children's activities, sports, playdates, and your business tasks all on the same calendar (or planner) you start to take ownership of the time you have. We all have the same 24 hours in the day, but it is how you prioritize the tasks at hand.

When I have a lot of top-priority tasks on hand, I always take a step back and look at them closer. I look to see what tasks will have the largest impact on my business. What tasks will make me money? What tasks need clients' approval? When I look at these three different categories, I really can see what needs to get done first. I will always do the tasks that will have the largest impact first. 80/20 rule. Then will dedicate my mind to money-making activities and most of the time the largest impact and money-making activities go hand-in-hand. I then will focus on client approval tasks. These are tasks I know I cannot 100% compete because they need another person to approve and this will take time.

Hey, remember when multitasking was a survival skill? Turns out, it's a superpower in business too! Empathy, patience, resilience—we gained these through motherhood, and they're our secret weapons on the entrepreneurial battlefield. I have never met a mother who was not doing 20 things at the same time... especially in those early baby years. If you lean into this skill you will see how transferable these skills are into business.

But you do not have to do this on your own. Let's talk about our squad—the partner who handles bedtime or making dinner when deadlines loom, the fellow mompreneur who doubles as a cheerleader, or the mentor guiding us through uncharted waters. Building this network has been the lifeline that keeps us afloat. Creating a powerhouse network of women really can change how the ecosystem of your business runs.

Picture this: a deadline looming, a toddler in a tantrum, and a light bulb moment for a groundbreaking idea. Sounds familiar? These stories—our triumphs, our challenges—are the real gems. Sharing these tales is how we inspire, learn, and grow together. There is never one right way to do it... but some tools and strategies can help us all grow together. It does not need to be you by yourself... it can be us together!

To all the mompreneurs in this whirlwind journey, let's embrace the chaos. Every spill, missed call, or triumph is a brushstroke in our masterpiece. Remember, success isn't just a destination—it's in the journey itself.
