How to Grow Your Business with Social Media

Social media is an amazing tool for businesses, but so often I hear small business owners and entrepreneurs comparing themselves to others as well as only looking at the number of views a video gets to judge if it was successful.

I want to break this down in more detail and really take this apart to show you this is not a clear representation of growth for your business. An account with 10k following doesn't mean that they are hitting their business goals and generating sales or new clients. The same goes for an account with only a couple hundred.

It is important not to judge your account on just the superficial numbers of follows and views. What is important to look at when seeing if you are maximizing on social media for your business would be looking at the conversion rates. How many people are converting into a customer or client. It is also important to remember everyone watching your videos are the potential consumers If you had a retail front those are the people coming into your business checking out what you have to offer. This is why it is so important when you create content that it is in line with your niche and you are not just chasing trends to get views. If you jump on a trend be sure to relate it back to your niche and your offer.

Below is my latest Vlog, I dig into how to use social media for business vs using it for personal reasons, and how to leverage it to hit goals.

One thing you hear lots of "social media experts" talk about is creating value with your content. But what does that really mean? The biggest thing to focus on is how are you serving your ideal consumer/ client? You need to be giving and giving and giving and then asking for the sale. If you provide value to your ideal consumer/ client daily in many different forms it does a few things:

  1. You show up as an authority in your field and people will know you for being an expert (even if you are just starting off. I am sure you have heard the phrase "fake it until you make it" this is where you would do that)

  2. Creates trust. Trust within your business is a must! Potential consumers/clients need to trust your business and by providing value daily they will know you and trust you. If you are going to be selling a product or a service they need to trust you. People buy you before they ever know what you offer.

Now, what type of content should you be focusing on will vary depending on what your brand and business are about and what your goals are. A question I get a lot is about how often you should be posting about your offer, products, or business. The answer is easy... you should be posting about it daily... but in different ways. You cannot make your feed 100% sales. You need to be creating different forms of content showing what your business really can offer other people.

For example:

If you have a service to sell, you are going to show up in multiple different video-form contents as an authority teaching other people about what you do or how you do it. Offering them the "FREE" aspects of your business.

A lot of people get afraid to give too much up for free because then what are they going to buy... trust me when I say, they will still buy! You will show them how much you know and all you can teach them. Also, a lot of people are very lazy and do not want to do it for themselves and will want you to do it for them (if this is what you offer). You will also want to create a graphic that becomes sharable and saveable content to refer back to. You do not need to reinvent the wheel. Only a percentage of your followers see your posts. This is why you need to put content out consistently and talk about your business daily in some way! You are also finding new people along the way!

How to take action today:

Take the time to evaluate the content that you are providing. How much of it is serving your ideal consumers/clients? What message are you getting across? Are you teaching people about your business? Is there a strategy in place? Are you showing up consistently?

If you answered these questions honestly you will see what action you need to take. By taking the appropriate action on the right platforms you will see what you need to do to start converting followers into clients and customers of yours. Be sure you are not taking strategies from all different people and taking bits and pieces to create your strategy expecting it to work. Your strategy needs to be designed with your goals in mind, and it will change as the seasons of your business will change.
