Embracing Change: Navigating Business Innovations as a Mompreneur

title of the blog banner. Embracing Change: Navigating business innovations as a mompreneur

As we move into the second half of the year, it's a perfect time to reflect on the progress we've made and look ahead to the opportunities that lie before us. You may realize you are further ahead than you expected, but you also may realize that you are nowhere near where you were hoping to be at this point.

My family is going through massive shifts right now with my daughter starting kindergarten and my son starting middle school. These are massive life changes for them and for me juggling changes in schedules, emotions, supplies, and preparation has me on my toes during this season.

Running a business while managing family responsibilities is no easy task, and it's common to feel overwhelmed, stretched thin, and stuck in cycles of inefficiency. However, with the right strategies, we can navigate these challenges and create a harmonious balance that allows us to thrive both personally and professionally.

Identifying Your Struggle

  • Overwhelm: The sheer number of daily tasks can be daunting, leading to stress and burnout.

  • Time Management: Juggling business duties with family life often feels impossible, leaving little room for personal time or growth. Not knowing what to work on and when to work on it, so you are left with little to no action. You get stuck in the "busy work" verse knocking out game-changing tasks.

  • Inefficiency: Without streamlined systems, it's easy to get bogged down in details, hindering your ability to scale your business.

Strategies for Common Challenges

I am always about taking action and I always want to provide you with the tools to see a shift in finding harmony between your business and your family lives. You no longer need to choose one to thrive at, when you have the right strategy to help you out!

1. Streamlining Operations

  • Automate Routine Tasks: Utilize tools and software that automate repetitive tasks. This can include scheduling social media posts, managing emails, or invoicing clients. Depending on the type of work you have this can get very extensive and act as your right hand.

  • Delegate and Outsource: Identify tasks that can be delegated to a virtual assistant or outsourced. This might include administrative duties, customer service, or content creation. Identify what you do not enjoy doing that is time-consuming and that takes you away from why you wanted to go into business in the first place. These are the tasks that are more easily taken off your plate. Keep the things you love and find solutions for the rest. Initially starting in business may seem hard or impossible as your income may not warrant it. But keep in mind, anyone that you work with should make you money, not cost you money.

2. Effective Time Management

  • Time Blocking: Allocate specific blocks of time for different tasks throughout your day. This will look different for everyone, and keeping in mind that some days will be more family-oriented and others might be more business-focused is totally fine and normal. What this does is help you stay focused and ensure that both business and family commitments are met.

  • Prioritize Tasks: Use techniques like the Eisenhower Matrix to categorize tasks by urgency and importance. Focus on high-priority items that align with your long-term goals. I also use themed business days to help me and my clients create and maintain a well-rounded healthy business. This also allows you to see what is a priority vs what can wait much easier.

3. Creating Sustainable Growth Strategies

  • Set Clear Goals: Establish short-term and long-term goals for your business. This provides direction and motivation, helping you stay on track. This does not always need to be monetary goals, but this could also be a way of life for you and your family. Goals do not need to be so cut and dry, and as a mompreneur, it is important to find what works for your overall mental health and daily life.

  • Implement Feedback Loops: Regularly review your processes and outcomes. Gather feedback from clients and peers to identify areas for improvement and innovation. Never be afraid of feedback, it can help you move that needle a lot faster.

Embracing Innovation and Change

Innovation is key to staying competitive and achieving long-term success. If we didn't learn this specifically from the pandemic I don't know what would teach it to you, honestly. So many businesses closed because they were not able to shift and make the necessary changes during this unpredictable time.

Here are a few ways to foster a culture of innovation in your business:

  • Stay Informed: Keep up with industry trends and advancements. Attend webinars, read industry blogs, and participate in relevant forums.

  • Experiment and Iterate: Don't be afraid to try new approaches and experiment with different strategies. Learn from failures and iterate based on what works best for your business.

  • Network and Collaborate: Connect with other mompreneurs and business owners. Collaboration can lead to new ideas, partnerships, and opportunities for growth.

Achieving Harmony

Balancing business and family life requires intentionality and a commitment to maintaining harmony. If you are new here then you probably have never heard me tell my community that there is no such thing as a perfect balance. It is unrealistic to think that a momprener or anyone for that matter can have a perfect balance. That is why a lot of generations are never finding happiness in their careers. At some points in your life, your family/ personal life will need more attention than your work life. At other points, it will be where your work/ business life will need more attention. that is totally normal and part of life. But we don't hear about this online, we hear about having it all. So keep this in mind when you are finding your harmony.

"Live life in the moments that matter the most."

Here are some tips to help you achieve this harmony through integration:

  • Set Boundaries: Clearly define your work hours and stick to them. It doesn't mean you need to work 8-12 hours a day, actually the opposite. What I do encourage you to do, is have "working hours" and this is where clients, customers, or employees have access to you. This way you do not end up splitting your time and you can embrace both. Communicate these boundaries to your family and clients to manage expectations. When you are working, you should be working, and when you are with your family, you need to be with your family. When we split our time and our attention, we are not able to give anything the best version of us and it will leave us wanting more.

  • Self-Care: Prioritize self-care and ensure you carve out time for activities that rejuvenate you. A healthy mind and body are crucial for sustained productivity and creativity. After being diagnosed with 5 rare brain conditions I was forced to slow down and shift my perspective on self-care. Self-care also means listening to your body and not overdoing it. Moms always put everyone else's needs before our own, but if you are not around who does this help??? It was a harsh reality I was faced with this past year and I hope you never have to. So please take the time to keep your temple cared for in all the different ways.

  • Involve Your Family: Where possible, involve your family in your business. This can help them understand your work better and foster a supportive environment. My family is very active in creating goals together. It allows my children to understand better what I am working so hard to create. It allows them to understand better why I am working so hard. We also create mini-goals and celebrate along the way. It is important to know what it takes to hit goals and achieve them.
